Blue Jackets Foundation announces record $1 million in grants
Blue Jackets Foundation announces record $1 million in grantsThe Columbus Blue Jackets announced on Wednesday more than $1 million in grants to local charities and youth hockey organizations, a record high for the 16-year-old foundation. The highlight is a $400,000 grant – with a matching $400,000 from Columbus recreation and parks – that will help build eight new playgrounds over the next four years in the city's "most vulnerable neighborhoods," said Kathryn Dobbs, executive director of the foundation."Given that unstructured play and physical activity is so important in fostering youth health and wellness, we're thrilled to help the city toward its goal of having a playground and park within a half-mile walk of every home," Dobbs said.
